Special Constable dragged by moving van in Northampton layby

One of Northamptonshire's Special Constables escaped serious injury after being dragged by a fleeing car in a Northampton layby.
Officers came across the vehicle parked on the A4500 at Upton following reports of a man being seen drinking from a can of beer late on Saturday night.

Hide AdA police spokesperson said: "One of our officers approached the white Nissan van on foot but the driver attempted to drive away, causing one of our Special Constables to become stuck in the driver door and pulled along with the vehicle.
"Fortunately, he managed to disable the vehicle and force the driver out of it."
A 56-year-old man was arrested and charged with failing to stop a vehicle when required by a constable and driving otherwise in accordance with a licence. He is due to appear in court in January.
