AN AUTHOR who has written a book set around Woodford Halse will be signing copies on April 12.
Stephen Done is the author of Smoke Gets in your Eyes, which follows Detective Inspector Charles Vignoles and the fictional railway detective department.
There is a signing at Woodford Halse library, based at the village hall, between 10.30am and
12pm. This is followed by a signing at Daventry Library in North Street between 2 and 4pm.
The setting of the railways and Woodford Halse was a natural choice for the novel.
Stephen said: “I lived in the area for around 13 years. The railway line has been closed down for a long time and I just thought it would make the perfect setting for the story that I wanted to tell.”
The story features the life of Violet McIntyre linked to an investigation by Vignoles which spirals out of control when two young railway cleaners at Woodford Halse locomotive depot make a startling discovery.
The situation worsens when Vignoles’ judgement becomes clouded and a woman’s life is put further at risk.
Smoke Gets in your Eyes was published in November last year and Stephen claims that he was inspired by many other crime writers.
He added: “I am inspired by writers who write about real people and real situations. I really like authors like Stephen Booth and Ian Rankin. While I might be inspired by those authors, I still want to do something different to them.”
He is currently writing a sequel featuring Detective Inspector Vignoles called A Murder of Crows, which is out towards the end of the year. Smoke Gets in your Eyes can be ordered from bookshops and costs £7.50.
