A CLASSICAL music group are celebrating their 25th anniversary with a series of concerts around the county.
Among the highlights of for Fiori Musicali in this bumper year include an appearance at the Althorp Literary Festival on June 15.
They will also be playing at some of Northamptonshire’s most stately homes, Aynhoe Park, Courteenhall and Boughton Ho
use, in addition to smaller venues in Everdon, Eydon and Fawsley as part of their anniversary season.
Penelope Rapson, the group’s artistic director, said: “Fiori’s philosophy is that everyone should be able to hear the very best of live classical music, whoever they are, wherever they live, so we take the music to the people.”
The group started when Penelope moved to Preston Capes in 1983 with a desire to perform music. There have been many of changes over the years, including the group now using authentic instruments.
Penelope said: “We now have an assortment of instruments from the 17th and 18th century so we can create as authentic a sound as possible.”
Violinist Veronique Matarasso, who has played with Fiori since the start, said: “Penelope has been crucial in getting in instruments used at that time and it is a great credit to her that she has managed to do it.”
There have been several highlights for both Penelope and Veronique over the years.
Veronique said: “We did a concert last year in France at St Loup De Naud in a medieval church and that was a really special concert.”
Penelope added: “One of the major achievements has been producing a CD, and we now have a dozen CDs which are very popular. We get enormous amounts of support from our followers and South Northamptonshire Council.”
The concert at Althorp House will take place from 6.15-8.15pm. Tickets cost £27 including pre-concert champagne, which will be served from 5.45pm.
In the Daventry area, the group will be performing at St Mary’s Church in Everdon on June 21 at 6.30pm.
Tickets for the concert cost between £12 and £18.
On July 6, they will be performing at St Nicholas Church in Eydon at 7.30pm. Tickets are available for £12.
This concert will be followed by another appearence at Althorp House on August 2.
The group will also be appearing at St Mary the Virgin Church in Fawsley on October 5. Tickets are available from £15 for the concert, due to start at 7pm.
Fiori Musicali will be performing throughout the year across Northamptonshire.
