THERE is a rare chance to see some exclusive items in a tour of a country house in Daventry.
Discover the secrets of Canons Ashby House in the Behind Closed Doors tour on Wednesday.

Visitors will be able to explore the Elizabethan house’s hidden places, the cellars and view books, costumes and silverware and other objects not normally see
n by the public.

Victoria Witty, house steward for Canons Ashby House, said: “This house is full of hidden treasures – both ancient and modern – and this is a great opportunity for visitors to view some of these.

“We will have some of our exquisite pieces of costume on display, many of which are normally kept in our conservation store in a controlled environment.

“If you are the sort of person who always wonders what’s behind a closed door, this is the tour for you.”

The two-hour tour starts at 10am and visitors will have time to relax in Canons Ashby formal gardens.

There will also be a chance to view the remains of St Mary’s Church, a 12th century priory occupied by an Augustinian order of monks called the Black Canons, from which the house takes its name.
