A POPULAR live music event will be hitting the stage in Daventry for the first time this summer.
Daventry Rocks is being launched by the organiser of the Woodford Rocks event, Barry Mines, at the new clubhouse at Daventry Town Football Club.

Barry said: “It will be a great place to watch live music from top tribute bands to excellent new and local bands which will be starting in August 2009.

Barry is confident the new event in Daventry will be just a popular as the gigs in Woodford Halse.

“We hope to see as many people at these gigs in 2009,” he said.

The line-ups for the first few gigs have been announced with The Police tribute act, The Secret Police, performing at the first event on Saturday, August 29, which will be headlined by So’77.

Inspired by bands like The Clash and The Sex Pistols, Daventry Rocks is a great opportunity for town-based punk band So’77 to perform at a new venue.

Phil Beech, member of the band which is currently recording a CD of covers and now has a sponsorship deal with Lambretta Clothing, said: “I think it is a really good idea for us to have somewhere new to play. We were approached by Barry, having performed at Woodford a few times, to open the gigs at Daventry Town.

“I think it should be a good base for live music. It is a venue that it out of the way so it will enable the band members and the audience to make as much noise as we want without disturbing anyone else.

“All of the band are looking forward to being one of the firstgroups to perform at the football club.”

Bands appearing at future Daventry Rocks include Pink Floyd tribute band Dark Side of the Wall on Saturday, September 19 and AC/DC tribute band Live Wire on Saturday, October 3.

On Saturday, October 17 The Screamin’ Abdabs, who cover a number of different music styles from the 60s to modern rock, will be performing.

Rock$tar, an 80s rock covers band, will take to the stage on Saturday, November 14, while Too-Rex, a tribute to Marc Bolan and T Rex, will appear on Saturday, November 28.

Times and prices for all of the gigs and details of other bands appearing will be announced at a later date.
