A DAVENTRY punk band are back on tour with a number of gigs lined up in the district.
So 77 have been inspired by the new wave punk music of the late 1970s, such as The Sex Pistols, The Jam and The Undertones.

Phil Beech, guitarist for the band, said: "The music we play is the music that inspired us when we were growing up."

The
band has been going for nearly two years but had taken a short break due to one of the band members having a knee operation.

They have already announced 15 gigs in a tour of the county and will be appearing at many Daventry venues, starting at the Peppermill in Westerburg Square, Daventry, on Saturday at 9pm, followed by an appearance at the Coach and Horses pub in Warwick Street at 9pm the following Saturday (March 22).

Further gigs will take place at the Wheatsheaf in The Green, Braunston, on March 29, The Courthouse in Rugby on April 5 and The Cross Tree in Byfield on May 3.

The band will also be making an appearance at the beer festival at Woodford United Football Club on May 24.

There are provisional plans for the band to do a charity gig at Napton Village Hall on April 12 and subject to the weather, a gig outside at the Coach and Horses Pub on May 25.

All the gigs are free of charge and Phil believes it is a great chance for the area as a whole to benefit from live music.

Phil said: "There are very few bands in the local area that go along and play in a pub and manage to get the place rocking and we can certainly do that."

While the group might be successful, it isn't interested in hitting the big time.

Phil said: "None of us are particularly looking to make it big, we're just using it as a chance to have a bit of fun and hopefully entertain people along the way."
