DAVENTRY'S Comedy Club is celebrating its first anniversary next week.
A comedy night is held one Friday a month in the Saxon Suite at Daventry Leisure Centre.

To mark a year since the club started, funnymen Tony Law, Mike Tombs and Paul T. Eyres will be taking to the stage next Friday.

Tony Law was born in Canad
a and has performed all over the world, including New York, South Africa and The Netherlands.

His laidback approach combined with scorching jokes and incisive remarks has made him a regular at the UK’s biggest comedy clubs, including The Comedy Store and Jongleurs.

Mike Tombs has been performing stand-up for three years and regularly appears on radio and television. In addition to regular performances at the Comedy Store and Jongleurs, he has also appeared at the Leicester Comedy Festival.

Paul T. Eyres was the winner of the Best New Act at the Comedy Cafe in February 2006 and rallies against stereotypes and assumptions in our culture. His rapid fire delivery inspires his audience to laugh, gasp and then laugh some more.

The Comedy Club is the brainchild of Stacey Lowe, marketing and events manager at Daventry Leisure Centre.

The average crowd for the gigs are about 60 and Stacey is hoping more will attend to celebrate the first anniversary of the club.

She said: “The first time we held the night, we had around 110 people, and it would be great to get those sorts of numbers again.

“I think despite the fact the Comedy Club has been going for a year, people are still not aware of it, and so when new people do come they find themselves having a really good evening.”

One of the biggest changes since the club started is it now has three comedians instead of two alongside a compere for the evening.

Stacey said: “It is nice to have a venue in the centre of town and is a good place for people to meet for nights out.

“All of the comedians that we have had so far stand out as really good high quality and people have come here and really enjoyed themselves.”

Doors open on Friday at 7.30pm with the comedian due to take to the stage at 8.30pm.

Tickets cost £7 if booked in advance on 01327 871144 or £10 on the door.
