THE letters in the Daventry Express concerning Daventry Country Park and its conservation area are a wake-up call to Daventry.
In my days as a town councillor I supported, and still do, the production of a report by Daventry Town Council's conservation consultants, which headed the Conservation Area Feasibility Study for Daventry
Country Park.
The 14-page analysis gave
a history of the area, reservoir and canal and highlighted conservation area criteria and the likely impact of future development on wildlife and the park's local nature
reserve role.
Included in the consultant's conservation area recommendations were the meadows, pastures and plantations on the Welton side of the park, and the establishment of a green buffer zone, typically some 80
metres wide, on the
eastern boundary.
Copies of this study were forwarded in 2006 to Daventry District Council and the West Northamptonshire Development Corporation as local planning authorities for their consideration and implementation.
I hope these recommendations will be made public and included in the forthcoming consultation exercise.
Do we want to see the wildlife driven away or killed? Certainly not.
