More to history of town shop
Reference your column on 'Spack and Mac to move' (Daventry Express April 24).
You are correct in the fact that it was one of two chemists in Daventry – but Spackman and McKenzie was opened in Daventry long before 1968 – I was born in Daventry and went to school with the daughter of Mr Mckenzie I can remember the shop in the 50s and have a picture of Daventry high Street during the Coronation with Rachael and myself.
The name was not conjured up by his father. The shop was owned by two gentlemen named Mr Spackman and Mr McKenzie to us Daventarians it has always been Spack & Mac.
I expect Mr Taylor doesn't belong to Daventry otherwise he would have a better knowledge of the history of the shop he now owns.
