I have attended several meetings over the past two years, regarding the development proposals on the Danetree site on Borough Hill and the Church Fields/Monksmoor development, around the Country Park.
The last meeting was at the Barcelo Hotel last Monday held by the WNDC regarding the Church Fields/Monksmoor development.

The main contention in all of these meetings, bought up by councillors, the public and members of the WNDC, seems to be that
these developments are not an extension of Daventry, but a separate community, isolated from Daventry town by Borough Hill and the Country Park, both two of the most prominent and important geographical sites in the area.

This was, in my view, highlighted on Monday's meeting when the inclusion of a supermarket on the planned Church Fields site was discussed.

The general consensus seemed to be that a supermarket here would take trade away from Daventry town centre, although it was obvious that some form of shopping outlet will be needed here, as on the Dantree site, because of its distance from the Daventry town centre.

It seems obvious to me that these sites are not extensions of Daventry but separate developments, that will do nothing to enhance the unspoilt countryside that it surrounds.

A vast percentage of these developments lie within the Parish boundaries of Norton, yet the 100-plus page document issued on Monday barely mentions Norton or the effect this development will have on it.

Finally, all of these proposed developments exceed the Government's requirement for housing in this area by about 40 per cent. I hope our elected leaders will stick to their guns and ensure that no more development than is required in its remit is sanctioned. I know these matters will be taken out of the hands of local council, but please do not use that as an excuse to cave in to outside pressure.
