I AM writing in support of Bob Waldock's letter (Daventry Express, June 26).
I grew up in Daventry in the 1970s and ask the question what exactly are the youth of today supposed to do?

In the 'olden days' we enjoyed the use of the following facilities on a regular basis:

The outdoor pool, which opened from 8am until dusk, in all weathers, with one lifeguard and none of the ridiculous restrictions of today.

There was also roller skating, pitch and putt, cinema, youth club, Daventry Boys club, the witches hat and roundabouts, Tuesday night discos at the Catholic Church, not to mention the train in the rec.

I also had a Saturday job and worked three evenings a week from 5.30 until 9pm for the handsomely sum of £5.25 a week.

But why should young people bother when there is nowhere for them to spend their hard-earned money or they have to catch a bus to Northampton or Rugby?
