It was refreshing to read Mr Rosier's reminder to the people of Daventry town as to the aims and purpose of the town council (Daventry Express, August 21).
He points out that councillors work voluntarily to represent our views and be our voice in consultations with bureaucratic central government bodies.
So it was sad to read that Mr Kay of Weedon felt that councillor Mrs Taylor should resign follow
ing a two-week suspension from her duties on the council.
I, and many others in Drayton and Daventry town itself, hope that she does not heed his words. Mrs Taylor was, and still is, a committee member of the Drayton Residents Association and it was this group that encouraged her to become a town councillor. For the past five years our community voice has been carried by her selfless representation and for that we are grateful.
Does this commitment to your community, which was declared by her from day one, deem a "prejudicial interest"? If so, the town council would be made up of disinterested, apathetic and voiceless members who would not persevere at the thankless, unpaid task of true representation.
Mr Kay was not at the hearing and does not live in Daventry. Perhaps Mr Kay should heed his own words and switch off from politics until he knows the true facts.
