CANS of strong lager are causing several miles of tailbacks on the M1 after a lorry lost its load at the Crick junction.
The lorry overturned earlier this morning. The driver was unhurt but the vehicle and the cans are blocking traffic heading north.
All three northbound lanes shut at junction 18 with traffic being directed down the sliproad and straight back on again to avoid the problem.
Drivers heading north on the M1 between junctions 16 (Flore) and junction 18 are being warned to expect delays of up to 40 minutes.
Although not directly affected by the accident southbound traffic is also moving slowly at junction 18 as drivers try and see what is happening.
Police are urging drivers to approaching junction 18 from either direction to use caution.
The problems on the M1 are having knock-on effects on other local major routes.
The Highways Agency has said it expects the delays to last until after 11am.
