LOCAL heroes dedicated to helping their community through voluntary work are being sought for an annual awards event.
The Unsung Heroes Award, run by Northamptonshire Police Authority, is now in its eighth year and seeks to recognise members of the public who put in long hours of unpaid work to make their communities a safer place.

Chairman of the authority, Deirdre Newham, said: “These individuals, or groups, go about their work unselfishly and do not expect recognition for what they do, but at the police authority we feel they deserve some formal recognition for the sterling work they do.”

Individuals and groups can be nominated and the authority is particularly keen to hear about the work young people are doing.

The main prize is a £500 cheque and trophy, while the winner of the individual and group categories will receive £250, runners up £150, and every nominee gets a certificate of appreciation.

Entry forms are at police stations and libraries, and can be found at www. northantspoliceauthority.org.uk or by calling 01604 887430. Nominations must be returned by September 12.
