Great day out in the country

A VILLAGE'S country fete raised at least £8,000 on Sunday with chances to win a Porsche for a weekend, a human fruit machine, 50 different stalls and a fun dog show.
Winwick’s Country Church Fete was opened by local children Tallulah Collins, three, and her brother Lucas, eight, along with their mum Andrea Dow, grandparents and dogs.
Usually the show is opened by a celebrity, but this year the organisers decided to ask people from the local community why they should be given the honour.
Sue Sherman, from Winwick, said: “It was an absolutely wonderful afternoon.
“We had lots of families come and we raised up to £8,000 with money still coming in. We’d like to thank everybody that came along and supported it. The fete was what it always is – a really lovely day out in the countryside.
“We also sold 1,600 cups of tea and cake, and the Lutterworth Band were there which was nice because they first came to our fete 50 years ago.
“Tallulah and Lucas were wonderful. We wanted to give someone their five minutes of fame and we picked them from the entries.
“They opened the fete and took part in the fun dog show, and wherever they went in the fete people were talking to them.”
Proceeds from the event will go to the village church.
