Man dies in five vehicle motorway crash

A MAN died in a five vehicle crash that closed the M1 near Daventry yesterday afternoon (Tuesday).
The collision occurred at around 2.20pm on the northbound slip-road at the Swinford junction and involved a white Volvo HGV, a green Ford panel van, a white and blue Scania HGV, a red DAF HGV and a red Renault HGV.

The driver of the Scania, Peter
Saint, 45 from Derbyshire, received fatal injuries.

Pc Adrian Price from Leicestershire Constabulary, who is investigating the incident, said: "The Scania HGV and Ford panel van were parked and stationary on the hard shoulder at the time of the incident and the other vehicles were travelling northbound on the carriageway.
"I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw any of the vehicles beforehand to contact us
"If you have any information regarding this collision, no matter how insignificant it may seem, please get in touch."

The northbound carriageway remained closed from junction 18 at Crick until around 1.40am this morning to allow police to deal with the scene and carry out their investigations.

A man was arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
