AROUND 100 Christians from a range of Daventry's churches walked through the town centre to mark Good Friday.
Starting at Holy Cross and led by a man carrying a large wooden cross, the Daventry Churches Together annual Good Friday Walk of Witness headed along New Street, through Bowen Square, down Sheaf Street and then up High Street.

It ended with hot cr
oss buns and coffee at the Methodist Church in Golding Close which organised this year’s event.

At regular intervals through the town the group stopped for hymns, prayers and readings.

Pat Manchester from the Methodist Church was on the walk. She said: “It was a beautiful day, very cold but it was lovely and the parade was well attended.

“I feel the parade is necessary just to give witness and also remind people what Easter is about.

“I used be be quite cowardly about going on the march but I’ve found it easier over the years, particularly as we’ve grown in numbers.

“To me Easter represents the great gift that we’ve all been given in life by Christ, his birth and of course his resurrection.

“Of course we are looking backwards to the event and celebrate the resurrection, but people at the time of the crucifixion must have thought it was the end.”
