A wildlife haven created by children at a village primary school has been officially opened.
The revamp of the area, now known as The Spinney at Barby Primary School, was the idea of class teacher Hayley Newman, who worked with her Year One and Two pupils to create an area which would attract different wildlife.
The youngsters brought in items to be used, such as bird tables and boxes, while volunteers, including parents helped to create the spinney.
Miss Newman said: "Before we started, the area was out of bounds and was overgrown, so I asked the children to think of some ideas.
"They have come up with suggestions which were very grown up considering they were five to seven year olds."
The spinney was finished in four weeks and cost £60.
