RUNNERS of different generations have put their best feet forward to raise money for charity.
Alwyne Wilson, a 67-year-old from Nether Heyford, ran the Great North Run on Sunday while brothers Joseph and William Pursey from the Southbrook, Daventry, took part in the Junior Great North Run.

Mrs Wilson raised £2,000 for Multiple Sclerosis research while Joseph, 10, ran in aid of Pete Spencer’s Helping Hands Memorial Fund and William, 15, was raising money for Little Hearts Matter.

Final totals have yet to be counted but mum Sarah estimates that Joseph has raised £400 and William has raised £200. William completed the three-mile race in 17.52 minutes and Joseph in 21.30 minutes.

Mrs Pursey said: “I am immensely proud of them both and I would like to thank everybody that supported and sponsored them.”

Mrs Wilson completed the 13.1-mile race in two hours 59 minutes after estimating that she would take four hours.

Mrs Wilson said: “The people cheering along the way were tremendous. There were people giving out biscuits and ice-lollies, and there was one man sitting by the side of the course and every time someone came past collecting money he’d reach into a bucket and give them a handful of coins.

“Crossing the finishing line was amazing, although by then I was like a car stuck in first gear that just kept going.

“I’ve been overwhelmed by the support that local people have given me and I’d like to thank them all.”
