IT WAS timber time for overgrown conifers in Braunston churchyard as they were cut down for safety reasons.
Tree surgeons got to work on the landmark trees in All Saints’ churchyard removing branches before preparing to cut down the main trunks.

Janet McCarthy, chairman of Braunston Parish Council, which instigated the works, said: “Some of the conifers were removed around 18 months ago, and we thought we could keep the rest.

“But they’ve lost so many branches that we realised they had to come down as well.

“It’s very sad because they are a real landmark, but they will be replaced will some yews which are more traditional for churchyards anyway and could last a thousand years.

“They will be really nice because we could clip them into a nice yew tree corridor, or let them grow over a bit.”
