FLYTIPPERS are being warned they face prosecution if they continue to flout the law.
Daventry District Council (DDC) has been cracking down on flytipping in the last few weeks, issuing people with on-the-spot fines and cautions under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

In September a Crick resident was given a £75 fixed penalty notice after dumping some household waste in Yelvertoft.

Last month a Daventry resident was also fined after flytipping on the Southbrook, and so far this month someone from West Haddon has been given a fixed penalty notice for dumping waste on roads in the area.

While most flytippers are fined, more serious cases can end up in court where the maximum penalty is a £50,000 fine and up to five years imprisonment.

Councillor Catherine Boardman, environmental portfolio holder at DDC, said: “I would urge anyone who is considering dumping their waste illegally to think again and dispose of your rubbish in the correct manner, otherwise you could end up facing a hefty fine or even imprisonment.

“If you are paying someone else to take your rubbish away, however small the amount, make sure they are licensed to carry waste.”
