Long Buckby are down to eighth place and a massive 14 points off the Premier Division pace set by Deeping Rangers after this second 4-0 away defeat in a fortnight.
Manager Glenn Botterill pledged himself to bringing in new faces even before Saturday’s big defeat at lowly St Neots and Wellingborough Town striker Jon Mitchell was due to sign in at Station Road on Monday.
With Ben Foster, Russell Dunkley and Carl Holmes already on the books, the Bucks have more frontrunners than they can accommodate even though the goals’ drought has now extended to three league and cup matches.
Holmes and Dunkley both blazed over the Saints’ bar in the first-half but it was the home team which took the lead before adding a second goal in the first minute of the second period.
St Neots struck twice more before the final whistle but Botterill was quick to praise the contribution made at centre-half by another Wellingborough recruit in Dan Chilton.
To make matters worse Holmes was stretchered off with a knee injury in a game which emphasised the difficulties faced by a Bucks side which finished runners-up to champions Stotfold only last season.
A home game against bottom-of-the-table Bourne could restore the Bucks’ fortunes this Saturday before Desborough are the visitors in the Hillier Cup next Tuesday night.
Most of Saturday’s other Premier Division matches went according to form with Deeping slamming Desborough by 6-1 at Outgang Road while Boston, Newport Pagnell, S and L Corby and Stotfold were all home winners.
Improving Cogenhoe did well to win at St Ives, Spencer and Raunds drew 1-1 at Kingsthorpe Mill and basement boys Bourne and Rothwell Corinthians shared four goals at Abbey Lawn.
