Long Buckby kept alive their chances of finishing runners-up to UCL champions Stotfold thanks to substitute Darren Lynch's injury-time winner against Desborough at Station Road on Saturday.
The Bucks achieved what Daventry Town had failed to do in the midweek KO Cup Final, when beating Ar Tarn through a 94th-minute goal which took the home team back into the Premier Division's No. 2 spot.
Both teams signed off with 81 points, but the
Bucks' superior goal difference means that only Blackstones can now overhaul them for second place.
The Stones beat lowly Wootton BC by 4-1 at the weekend, but still need at least four points from remaining fixtures against Spencer (home) and St Ives (away) to leapfrog over Glenn Botterill's men.
A tale of two penalties was the story of the first-half.
Desborough's Ben Armstrong handled a Dan Burke pass in the 13th minute and Darren Harmon made no mistake with the spot kick.
Michael Byrne then reciprocated for the visitors after being upended by Stuart Smeathers on the half-hour of an increasingly physical contest which brought yellow cards for Desborough players Michael Sneddon, Paul Malone, Armstrong and substitute David Rogers.
Carl Holmes thought he had put the Bucks back in front with a 50th-minute header, but Ar Tarn goalkeeper Michael Evans brought off a fine one-handed save.
At the other end Farhed Afandiyev then charged out of his goal to deny Byrne.
The Bucks added more firepower with the introduction of strikers Lynch and Ben Foster, only for Desborough to go close to grabbing a late winner when Jamie Gilsenan hit the crossbar.
But with four minutes of injury-time already on the clock, a Harmon free-kick was helped on its way by Russell Dunkley, for Lynch to apply the coup de grace.
Champions Stotfold were held to a 1-1 draw at Sleaford, but there were 2-1 away wins for Deeping Rangers, Boston and Raunds.
