Long Buckby's mixed team's season finally came to a close on Saturday with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against a very good Saints seconds.
With a very different team available this week usual goalkeeper Andy Morgan reverted to a midfield role allowing last year's keeper Ben Hawkins to play his first game of the year.

The game started with neither side making any clear cut chances, wi
th the midfield cancelling each other out.

Long Buckby tried to exploit both wings with Pamela Kerr and Gemma Morgan making Saints' defence work hard.

Naisan Deghani had Buckby's only real chance in the first-half, firing just wide when through on goal.

Saints also came close in a frantic goal-mouth scramble, but a fine double save from Ben Hawkins kept the score level at half-time.

The second-half carried on much as the first one finished. Long Buckby should have taken the lead on three separate occasions, with first Sue Robson missing from close range, Pamela Kerr shooting only inches wide and Gemma Morgan firing into the keeper when clean through.

At the other end, a goal-line clearance from Vicky Soden ensured the final 10 minutes were going to be frantic as each team pushed for that vital winning goal.

Two more outstanding saves from man-of-the-match Ben Hawkins left the final score 0-0.

After a 3-1 defeat when the teams last met, this was a marked improvement for Long Buckby.

Long Buckby finished this season on a high with an outstanding team performance cementing their position as a top five team in the league.

Thanks were expressed to everyone who has played this year and to all the umpires who have helped the team out.
