Both Daventry Town and Long Buckby will need to win their first three Premier Division matches this month to put down early markers in a hotter-than-usual UCL title race.
On Saturday the Town kick-off the 2008-2009 campaign against Cogenhoe at Communications Park while the Bucks’ travel to Bourne, another team expected to finish in the top half of the table this season.

Almost all other leagues in the country will kick-off a week or more later!

Despite last season’s runners-up slot behind Stotfold, Bucks’ manager Glenn Botterill is taking nothing for granted on learning that the Wakes’ have signed on no less than nine new players this summer.

Rothwell Corinthians, promoted at Daventry United’s expense on the last day of last season, should also be rolled over at Station Road next Tuesday before the derby match with Spencer at Kingsthorpe Mill on Saturday week.

Meanwhile Rothwell’s No.2 club entertains Daventry Town on August 19 after Martyn Walker’s men have taken on Raunds on the wide open spaces of Kiln Park next Tuesday night.

Crunch time for both local Premier Division clubs could be delayed until Saturday, August 23 when reigning champions Stotfold visit Station Road under the leadership of controversial ex-Potton boss Ian Donnelly.

Daventry go to Market Deeping on the same day to face a Rangers side which won the UCL title in 2006-2007.
