CHAMPIONS Ford Sports barely needed to break sweat to do the double over Bourne at the Royal Oak and extend their defensive clean sheet to more than six hours of football.
The Motormen have resisted the attacking efforts of Desborough, Bugbrooke and Kempston and experienced Simon Williams claimed: "It s all down to hard work."Improved team spirit has led to increased discipline throughout the side. We have cut out the
sloppy goals and that way you get things out of games."Williams has also brought out the best in young Glen Gibb, tough-tackling Aidy Pestell and the much-improved Gary Smith.Ford were in control almost from the start during their 3-0 win over Bourne. Lee Ross had a perfectly good headed goal disallowed in the fifth minute but personally made amends midway through the first-half.A well-worked move involving Chris Evans, Billy Thomas and Liam O Neill resulted in a left-foot scoring effort from Ross who was netting for only the second time since Christmas. The Wakes squandered a golden opportunity to level the scores at the start of the second period when Kevin Ansell shot tamely on being presented with a one-on-one with goalkeeper Graham Bott. Then it was all one-way traffic with Ford using player-manager Shane Geary, Scott McGuinness and newcomer David Oulton as second-half substitutes for Thomas, O Neill and Martin Jennings. Oulton used to play for Darren Wood at Buckingham while second new signing Roger Greenwood, a former Hull City professional, will now only be available for midweek matches.Further goals were inevitable and Ford eventually netted twice within 30 seconds on 80 minutes.A Geary free-kick was well controlled by McGuinness before scoring and Evans first goal for the club followed soon afterwards. The cultured midfield man broke away to flick the ball over a defender s head before causing the Bourne net to bulge with the third of three well-executed goals.Bott hurt his ankle but still managed to bring off a couple of athletic saves to preserve their clean sheet run.
