Former Long Buckby FC chairman Chris Healey will give the Daventry area a long overdue voice on the UCL management committee, writes Mike Tebbitt.
Healey has plenty of administrative experience as he previously sat on the Daventry Town committee, as well as acting as the club’s treasurer for a short time.

As the UCL hierarchy is heavily weighted with representatives from Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire, Healey’s presence will give a mouthpiece to local clubs such as Daventry Town, Long Buckby, Daventry United and Bugbrooke St Michaels.

When I pointed out last season to UCL vice-chairman George Whiting that the Daventry area was unrepresented he rightly retorted that “we would love to accommodate a committee member from your area but so far no-one has put their name forward.”

Healey has now rectified that and could make an early impact by insisting that from 2009-2010 onwards the UCL falls into line with the Southern League by producing an unalterable fixture list for the season.

At present, fixture planning goes up until Christmas only and is subject to numerous alterations after the first few weeks.

Now based in the Drayton area of Daventry, Healey will no doubt miss some of the UCL’s monthly meetings as his job in crime prevention takes him all round the world.

The Silverstone Grand Prix is on his agenda along with the Glastonbury Festival, while he also makes regular trips to Australia.

Along with Northampton’s Paul Tebbutt, Healey is now in a position to help redress the balance between the eastern and western regions of a league, which covers six counties and includes clubs more than 100 miles apart – Woodford United Reserves on Northamptonshire’s Oxfordshire borders to Boston and Holbeach on The Wash!
