FA restructuring plans will bring eight new clubs into the Southern League's Midlands Division, which will come as music to the ears of officials at cash-strapped Woodford United.
Bedford Town and Bromsgrove Rovers are both relegated from the Premier Division, with AFC Sudbury, Arlesey Town and Bury Town switching sideways from the Isthmian League.

Midland Alliance champions Atherstone Town are promoted, along with Ridgeons
Eastern League top dogs Soham Town Rangers, while Marlow move over from the SL's South-West Division.

To bring the division back up to full strength with 22 teams, only seven clubs depart, led by promoted outfits Evesham United and Stourbridge.

Bishops Cleeve and the Forest of Dean-based Cinderford Town go to the South-West, Berkhamsted are relegated to the South Midlands League and both Rushall Olympic and Willenhall are switched to the Unibond Northern League.

Willenhall have average home attendances of only 103 spectators and both clubs have been sacrificed, even though Chasetown is geographically further north.

Woodford chairman Andy Worrall and new manager Mark O'Callaghan will not lose any sleep over that, as Chasetown's average crowd was 434 last season and the Scholars have a small army of travelling fans.

Even better news for the Reds in financial terms was the failure of Leamington (average attendance 576) to win the promotion play-offs.
Outgoing Cinderford, Bishops Cleeve and Berkhamsted all averaged less than 100 at the turnstiles last season.

Promoted champions Evesham United only managed 121, so Woodford can hopefully look forward to some improved attendances at Byfield Road next season, with the further bonus that relegated Bromsgrove averaged 415 in the Premier Division and Bedford 359.

On the travelling front Woodford will get rid of their longest journey (to Cinderford), but will have to venture into Suffolk to take on both Sudbury and Bury St Edmunds.

Sudbury swelled the Byfield Road crowd to a then record of 309 when beating the Reds by 3-1 in an FA Cup tie on October 14, 2006, while Cambridgeshire outfit Soham Town lost 1-0 at home to Long Buckby in the FA Vase last season.

Woodford's best chance of avoiding relegation next April would appear to be at the main expense of Stourport, Malvern or Rothwell.
