Wet weather greeted
competitors at the start of the annual six-mile road race on Sunday and it was still raining when Gordon Lee came home in a new record time of 31 minutes
19 seconds.
First lady home was Beverly Gray with another record time of 38 minutes
19 seconds – and it was still raining.

Despite a very good turnout from Rugby and Northants Athletic Club their efforts to retain the team prize were thwarted Wootton road runners who were led home by Steve Poole who was third overall.

Junior prizes (age 15 to 18 years) were taken by Hannah Jones of Rugby and Northants and the male prize went to Dom Coleman of Wellingborough and District Athletic Club.

There was also a good turnout from Daventry area clubs with three runners from Human Energy and Daventry Road Runners fielded three with other club members on marshalling duties.

Race organiser Bill Goadsby said: "I would like to say a big thank you to Direct Office for their
continued sponsorship and another big big thank you to friends and family who helped make the race take place despite the appalling weather conditions."

The 18th annual
six-mile road race started and finished at Ford Sports and Social Club, Royal Oak Way North, Daventry,
following a revised route.
