A large field of 96 players took part in the Senior Mixed Open at Staverton Park Golf Club on a blustery morning.
Many of the entrants were regular visitors to Staverton and the scores were extremely good for such a windy day.
Almost half the field came in with scores on par; two pairs scored of 39 points, three pairs scored 40 points and three pairs record
ed 41 points.
Results were: Nearest the pin, ladies – Jackie England, Coventry Golf Club.
Nearest the pin, men– Bill Marks, Staverton Park.
The winners (visitors), all scoring 41 points were: Third on countback – Ian Barden and Glenys Emery, Brampton Heath Golf Club; Second on countback – John and Jackie England, Ullesthorpe Golf Club; First on countback – Ken and Mary Wells, Coventry Golf Club.
The winners (members) were Peter Perry and Jackie Taylor with a terrific score of 44 points.
Jill Strong TrophyThe first ever Jill Strong Trophy was played by the ladies last week. Jill was the Ladies Captain in 2006 but sadly died after a brave fight against cancer last year.
The ladies wanted to play a competition in her memory, and contacted Mark, her husband, who was thrilled that they wished to do so and kindly offered to provide a trophy for this event. Altogether, 34 ladies entered this competition and the field was split into three divisions.
The winners of the trophy were the top scorers in each division. They were as follows:

Handicap League TeamStaverton Park entertained Silverstone in the home fixture, during the evening of Thursday, July 24.
First pair out was in-form Division 2 champion Alan Hough and Paul Creaney who won 2 – 0.
Second pair of Chris Pendlebury and Pete Perry who won 3 – 0.
Third pair of Nic Burtt and Kevin Matthews gained the biggest win of the evening, winning 5 – 0.
Fourth pair of Mike Kingswood & Will Montgomery halved.
Fifth pair of Division 3 champion Chris Cotton and Kevin Everett achieved a 2 - 0 victory.
And finally the sixth pair of Pete Adams and Derek Lary got a 1 - 0 victory and a 13 - 0 team victory
Men's Invitation Day On the warmest day of the summer so far 67 pairs teed up on a superb looking course. Some great golf was played all day and it looked as if the result was done and dusted for much of the afternoon, with Simon Brown and partner (his father-in-law to be) Terry Little, playing a super round of golf and recording 43pts.
Then one of the last pairs to come in - last year's winners Mark Stott and Graham Stott - pipped Simon and Terry at the post with 44pts to retain their title!

Ladies Invitation – Friday July 25A large group of ladies gathered from far and wide on Friday to play in the annual Ladies Invitation. This was the best turnout the Ladies Section has had for several years. The weather was perfect which brought out the best golf in all the competitors.

Nearest the Pin – 12th hole: Theresa East
Third Place: Jane Clifford and Mo McInnes with 40 points
Second Place: Dawn Rimmer and Theresa East with 41 points
Winners: Karen and Jean Poolton with 44 points
Junior County League ChampionshipOnce again Staverton Park has 2 teams entered in the Junior County League Championship.
Staverton B had its first match away against Silverstone (the reigning League Champions) on Sunday were hoping to improve on the whitewash it suffered last year. Matthew Curtis brought home 1 point with the heroics going to Aaron Crampton who was A dormy 6 and managed to halve his match - an excellent example of not giving up. A 4 ½ /1 ½ result gets the team underway and it is hoping to be victorious against Brampton Heath at home next Sunday.
Monday saw seven of bright young talents enter the Northants County Junior Open. With the overall trophy going to Kingsthorpe they managed 1st Gross to Tom Lenton, 2nd Gross to Josh Morris and 3rd Gross to David Poolton all with the same score and causing a few headaches on countback. Toby Inskip won the Best Nett with a score of 69.
