DAVENTRY United missed out on promotion on the final day of last season but made a flying start to the new campaign when scoring four times without reply against relegated Wootton Blue Cross at the Royal Oak on Saturday.
Joel Young lobbed the Wootton goalkeeper to opening the scoring in the 20th minute before all three second half goals came from midfield new recruits Zac Fotheringham, Bobby Lea and Matty Coburn.
Nuneaton-based Fotheringham doubled the home advantage inside the hour on using his pace to cut inside a Blue Cross full back before Lea made it 3-0 in the 75th minute on working a one-two with Ian Waldock.
With time running out substitute Coburn completed the scoring by firing home a rebound after United's initial shot had been blocked by a visiting defender.
