Daventry All Blacks made it two wins from two with a victory over rivals Bugbrooke on Saturday, but despite keeping a clean sheet Daventry will feel the winning margin should have been more.
A positive start from Daventry was rewarded by two early penalties from the boot of Adam Whitehead as Bugbrooke struggled to compete with the power of Daventry's forwards, especially at scrums.
This dominance in the scrum was rewarded when a five-metre scrum edged its way towards the line before captain and number eight Alistair Brighton picked up and dived over. Adam Whitehead converted to make it 13-0.
Despite dominating territory and possession the Blacks struggled to add to their try tally. Good aggressive running from Bradley Wardell and Hin Dip did not get the support or the precise back play which it deserved.
A further penalty from Adam Whitehead made it 16-0. Centre Luke Jones was forced to make a fine try-saving tackle after a breakaway up the right hand side carved the Daventry defence wide open.
A score-less second half frustrated Daventry who dominated possession but could not unlock a feisty Bugbrooke defence despite the platform laid upfront by the impressive Tom Parratt and the ever- improving Mark Hyde.
Having conceded just five points in their first two games, Daventry have a lot to be pleased with as they gear up for next week's mammoth derby away at Long Buckby.
They will however will be aware of the need to be more clinical in attack in future weeks. Tries; Alistair Brighton; conversions; Adam Whitehead; pens; Adam Whitehead 3; MOM; Alistair Brighton

Daventry Seconds 34 Wellingborough Thirds 22
Daventry second string continued their good start to the new season with a well- deserved 34-22 home victory over a strong Wellingborough third team on Saturday.
The first-half went exactly to captain Steven McGeachey's game plan, with the forwards creating a solid platform for a strong Daventry back line to score at will.
The opening try came from full-back Paul Hockham, who also scored a breakaway try later in the first-half. Man of the match Duncan Green got on the score sheet as he finished off a nicely-worked Daventry attack.
Andy Moore was next over the Wellingborough line after good support play. Daventry finished the first-half with a convincing 22-0 lead.
Daventry started the second half by scoring through Dave Marks who rounded off some great Daventry support play.
Winger Tom Lowry then took full advantage of a Wellingborough handling error to snatch the ball and race away from inside his own half to score under the posts.
Wellingborough battled hard for a win but the Daventry defence held strong, with Ian French and Ricky Haynes getting through a lot of work.
