Sports stars from across the Daventry district will be going for gold in the Daventry District Sports Awards 2008.
This year's awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2008, at the Saxon Suite of Daventry Leisure Centre, in Lodge Road.
And Daventry District Council (DDC), which runs the event, is asking for people to send in their nominations for l
ocal sports stars who deserve recognition for their dedication and achievement.
Cllr Alan Hills, portfolio holder for community, culture and leisure at DDC, said: "Daventry district is brimming with sporting talent and this is the chance for every one of them to get the recognition they deserve for all their hard work.
"Last year, we had the highest number of nominations to date and we hope to expand on that this year.
"We are calling for all clubs, schools, parents and friends who know an individual or team who have achieved sporting excellence, personal achievement, good sportsmanship or other outstanding contributions to sport in the last year to nominate them for an award.
"We want to show our appreciation for all their achievements and reward their talent."
The person nominated must live or play sport in Daventry district.
If nominating for the younger categories that person must be under 18 on October 9, 2008, and have parental permission.
Anyone can nominate from today, July 3, and can pick up a nomination form from Daventry Leisure Centre and the council office, in Lodge Road, or from the information centres in Brixworth, Woodford Halse and Long Buckby.

PLEASE NOTE: All nominations must be sent to the Daventry District Council Recreation Team, Contracts House, High March, Daventry, NN11 4HB, to arrive by 5pm on Friday, September 12, 2008.
